Tile, vinyl plank, and laminate floors hold up much better than carpet when it comes to shedding, accidents, and muddy paws. Bonus points if the home already has pet-resistant surfaces in high-traffic areas.

In the Arizona heat, shade is a must. Covered patios, pergolas, or even mature trees can make the yard much more usable—for both dogs and their humans.
